Throne Thoughts

Posted: December 12, 2012 in Devotions

11Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-15

What we often think of as the final battle is really the second to the last battle. The final battle comes after Satan is released after Christ’s Millennial Reign and once again works deception among the nations and attacks God’s saints. Fire destroys those armies opposing God and His people and then there is the final judgment
All the dead are brought to the His Throne to be judged by His pure standard. Notice that the judgment was based on what was written in the books (not the Book of Life). Each person judged for his own works. Then Death and Hades are cast away and finally the Book of Life decides who else is cast away. I think it is important for us to remember that even we who are saved will be judged according to our own works before we enter eternity with our God. And according to Hebrews, judgment begins with the house of God.

Those who believe, in the words of Paul, ought not to live as mere men. We should have lives that matter. Our eternal existence has already begun in Christ. We have access to all spiritual blessings in the heavenlies. We do not need to wait to die to live our eternal life. More than existing without end, eternal is a quality of life that enhances our being. We are connected to the Eternal Deity and the benefits that come with being grafted into His power. His LIFE is our LIFE. The Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. We have to affect those around us with this power or we are wasting what God has given us. I encourage you to take up the blessings provided for you and LIVE beyond mere mortal limits. Together the body of Christ can lead individuals to Christ so that they too can be empowered by His Spirit to live a life of meaning and consequence.
